So, okay, what gives with the singing on this game? Without giving away all your deepest, darkest secrets, why is it that I can sing a song in real life, dead on, but when it comes to this game, not so much?
It doesn't take away all the fun, but it is frustrating to me that while you guys are strumming and drumming away on expert, I have to play on medium, sometimes hard if I don't mind a little humiliation.

It's because they make you sing something more complicated than what you want to play.
Also, when you sing a song in real life, you aren't being scored.
I like to think I can match Brad Delp's voice in Boston's 'Long Time' when I'm just listening to it on my computer, but when I go to sing it in the game, I am reminded of how horrible of a singer I am. (Seriously, that guy isn't human)

I'm sorry, didn't mean for it to come out that way.
But it's true, Harmonix builds the vocal tracks in a way that seems more complicated than when singing for realz.

I am not sure at this moment what the issue is, but having played rock-band it seems to measure pitch funny. It never quite follows the ups and downs so well, if you do the middle parts in the song well, and then the song goes into a high pitch or a noticeably lower sound, it will try and make you sing impossibly high or ridiculously low notes.

There are always ways to cheat the system though. For example, if you are alone (don't make anyone else listen to you do this) or failing at a song, try not to sing the words. The words don't count on any difficulty, just the pitch. So in order to learn the pitch just try to hum the song.
What is really strange is there have been times where I've been sick and I start not hitting the notes, but when I cough, my coughs are right on pitch. Who knew that it is possible to cough on pitch?

LOL,
Another crazy aspect is that I can get awesome after awesome on songs I DON'T know, just by doing the humming thing I guess, but then shank it with songs I've been singing for years.

the thing about rockband singing is you have to learn to sing the song the way they have it written. I have the same problem if i sing and enjoy myself I poor scores. if i concentrate on the way it's written i do much better. I am an expert singer but die on the talky parts. was in the top 300 leaderboard but slipped some since then.
