With the games first real installment into Xbox’s next gen console, Battlefield Bad Company hit’s the ground running with an all new engine and game play elements. Battlefield BF brings new elements to the series tried and true modern war game play. This title offers players a long over due revamp to destructible environments in a fps setting. The last such game I can recall having this implemented was the old Red Faction series on the PS2.

Gamers may either play the entertaining single player campaign following the story of a soldier who’s action have landed him into the armies rag tag group of expendable rejects taking on suicide missions, who get side tracked into following a private military organization in hopes of taking hold of the gold bars they use to pay their mercenaries.

Multiplayer offers two different modes ( only one mode at launch, they second was added free of charge during a recent update). In Gold rush two teams Square off to either capture gold crates or defend them by racking up kills against the other team until they run out of spawns. The other is the old conquest game type where two teams aim to capture control points and whittle down their opponents ticket count to zero by holding more points than them.

In these modes there are a multitude of cl***es to play as such as a demolitions expert, who uses shotguns, rocket launchers and land mines to take out enemy vehicles. The Specialist cl*** which uses silenced smg’s, C4 ( remote controlled explosives) and a tracer dart to track anything hit with it. A recon cl*** that has a sniper rifle and laser targeting. A soldier cl*** with machine guns and a self healing item, and lastly a support cl*** armed with a heavy machine gun and the items to heal team mates and repair vehicles.

Leveling up in this game is done by getting points in game via kills and objectives giving you the option at certain levels to unlock a new weapon or item of your choosing. The players now can blow down nearly any wall they see in order to make safer routes for themselves or giving tanks better view of the object to be destroyed. There are many vehicles to choose from ranging from ***orted tanks, jeeps, water craft and helicopters. B:BF also implements a fun new melee system where the player whips out a combat knife and hacks down enemies for a one hit kill, which then alerts the player that they have captured a enemy dog tag. These tags get added to a persistent list of everyone you have stabbed to death. There is also a bevy of medals and patches you earn in game say for getting so many kills in a row, using the artillery cannon, taking an objective ect.

Overall this game is highly enjoyable and a must play for all Xbox owners. I shall give it a proper rating once Our staff have discussed how we wish to grade these games.

One thing I will say... Battlefield: Bad Company is one of the most immersive FPS games I have played... You have walls bursting out in front of you, tracers flying over your head, tanks rumbling down roads firing across smoking fields - it is fantastic... Two gripes.... The first? FOUR PLAYER SQUADS! so damn frustrating for a group like us with a lot of players... And the second? The damn snipers... Of all the games this is the one where you can get into a spawn/die rut due to spawn camping snipers... Not nearly as bad as the first version on the Xbox (Battlefield 2) but irritating none the less... This only happened once but still... grrrr.....
